Wet USB cable

Would a USB cable that's been exposed to rain/water still be ok to use as long as it's dry? My father brought home a USB hub that he found new, still in the box. It might have been exposed to water, he's not sure. It's been sitting here inside for about a month so I know it's dried out already. I'm just hesitant to hook it up to the computer. Would it damage the computer or any devices (digital camera) that's connected to it?

It is probably okay if it is just a cable I'm sure it will be fine.. The worst that could happen to a cable is a little corrosion. A hub would probably be okay as well..
