got hold of a mystery gadget; a professional lookign circuit board installed into a VCR tape box, with a video in rg connector, a video out rg connector, and an 18 volt AC power jack. google comes up a blank. anybody got any idea what this baby might be, while i go look for an 18 volt wallwart?

Wild guess: A Macrovision removing "video stabilizer."

ooh, that's an interesting guess; some sort of copy protection deprotector. gonna be fun trial and erroring the answer.

Do you mean it has the same form factor as a tape cartridge- say a VHS tape cartridge? In that case it seems like it is made to take the place of the tape in the recorder, not do anything to or with a tape. Those

18V AC wall warts are quite common at places that deal with cable TV equipment.

e

no, the board is literally installed in one of those plastic boxes a vhs comes in, with the two connectors screwed through the backbone of the thing.

thanks for the info re the 18 volts, i hadn't been able to scare up anythingn more than 12 in the generic adjustable wallwart world.
