Can someone explain how these transmit a signal,(What do they use for power to do the transmitting??????)

I assume you mean *passive* tags?

They are themselves powered by the power emitted by the reader.

They pass information to the reader by presenting a variable RF load.

Yep! Most of my recent chip designs have been battery-powered tags with sleep-mode to keep the average power consumption in the mud.
