To deture some one from intering my grarage I change the pin or reset the combanation all most every day. What will this do to my grarage door equitment? Thanks. The problem is when I leave home, not while I'm there. Other wise Holmer I would use your 4X4 suggestion.
How many times can you change the pin on a electric grarage door?

If the code uses DIP witches - until the switches wear out
If the code is in EPROM - until the cells can't be written again (between 1000 and 1000000 times, depending on the chip
If you get a rolling code remote control, it automatically goes to a new code on each use, so there's nothing manual to do.
I would suspect an interference problem with your opener, either RF or AC power lines. I have two of the same model openers, installed at the same time, and one is sensitive to lightning strikes (within a half mile or so) and will open the door and lock up the receiver. The other opener (on the same AC feed) has never had a glitch. I now have an X-10 appliance control in the line to the lightning-sensitive opener and just remove power from it when I'm away
- the X-10 remote also has one button set to turn on a light inside the house.
