If you search around at any of the major electronic distributors, you should be able to find a flashing LED. Most of them work on about 4 to 6 Volts. The problem is that running an LED on battery, it may not last more than a few days. You will be going through a lot of batteries!
Is the dog that small that you cannot see it?!!! What would you do if you had an infant child at home that is in the crawling stage??? I wouldn't want to put a flashing collar on my kid!
Have you thought about dying the dogs hair a different colour? Dogs are colour blind to many colours, and would not know the difference.

JANA _____
I need to build some sort of a flasher to put on my dog's collar- she's the same color as the carpet and keeps getting stepped on :-) I'm thinking a
3909 flasher running a LED from a coin cell. I haven't kept up to date on what's available, or if there are any better chips than the LM 3909 out there. Ideally it should be able to run for a year and be small enough to be clipped onto the dogs collar without having a honking big battery hanging off it (ideally the thing has to be smaller than the dog, which is pretty tiny). Any suggestions appreciated. TIA.
