Does A Device Like This Exist?

Some kind of "Gun Like" device that, when pointed at an object, say a wall of wood, and you activate the device, it "hits" the wall of wood with some kind of concentrated wave of energy, and a bang! is heard from the wall directly where the device was pointed (It is not touching the wall). Or, I point the device at a glass, pull the trigger, and a ringing sound emanates from the glass, like it's been "Hit." Would a device that shot out concentrated, compressed sound waves work like this? Thanks for any replies.

For many years there have been such devices available as plans, complete kits and even fully assembled. Their effectiveness hasn't been explored by yours truly, however.

Yes. Such a device exists. (Well, not exactly gun-sized. If I recall well, they needed a van for transportation. :-) It was shown on Discovery Channel (or a similar type of TV station).

I suspect the device would make more "nose" than the surface... =20 Still, I've seen a similar effect in water. Many years ago, when on vacation with the family atg a large lake, I attached a cherry bomb to a rock, lit the fuse, and dropped it into the water about 1/2 mile offshore. The direct sound was a muffled thump, but I was suprised to hear a "crack" from shore several seconds later, as the shock wave hit a dock and was transmitted through the structure into the air, and back to me. =20
