Dallas DS3231 RTC; known stability/accuracy issues?

This device is billed as "Extremely Accurate" and with stability +-2ppm (at 0 to

40C). Everything I've read in the data sheet - features as well as stability - fills the bill for my uses. However, having read several reports in the past about poor stability of DS32KHZ (accurate 32KHz source), I feel somewhat wary about the claims made for DS3231. Yes, I could just run some tests... but this is no jelly bean; DigiKey gets US$7+ apiece in singles. Getting samples seems to be out of the question; Dallas has never sent samples of anything I requested, presumably because I am not a company.

So, does anyone here have first-hand experience with DS3231 and care to share? I'd be interested to hear about:

1) short/long-term stability 2) accuracy 3) ease/difficulity/impossibility of synching the RTC's Freq-Out to a primary timing source's Second pulse. 4) any functional characteristics that were unexpected, anomalous.

Upon reflection, I think my original post sounds like a solicitation of comments that I will substitute for doing testing myself. It isn't. I certainly will test it, eventually, but I don't want to invest any time and effort in this part if it has known problems that render it unsuitable for my uses. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

sorry for you but dallas (in fact maxim) is as far as I know the only company that sends samples even to private no company user without asking anything !!!

That sure makes me feel good ...... not!

Actually, each of my requests for DalSemi samples went out some years ago, to DalSemi. It was long before Maxim entered the DalSemi picture.

The only DalSemi stuff that I receive in the mail is unsolicited brochures sealed in plastic mailing bags, and never about a device that interests me.

so if it was years ago, please try a sample request to maxim.com and wait 10 days or so before asking here again ? it seems you're in the usa so not a "forbidden" country for them to send samples. I never tried samples from dalsemi but for sure it was really old...;) best regards,
