CD spinner hubs

Jan 11, 2004 2 Replies

I don't know if this is the correct term for it or not... I'm referring to the part of a cd drive or cd player that the disc is held in place by (either by gravity, or snaps).

Is there a way to remove these from the axle of the motor that spins the disc? I have a cd drive that I'm taking apart...and I want to put a snap in hub on it and remove the one that is currently on it.

I figure they are just press fitted.

Thanks

They are normally just pressed on but if you remove it they are absolutely ball aches to get back in the right place unless you have the special focus tools for the laser.

Well, this is cheap stuff, no big deal if I ruin it, I'm just trying one of my hair-brained schemes to help out a friend with one of his strange projects. It would be nice if I could just switch the motors out (I want to trade hubs with a cd-rom drive and an AudioPhase brand portable cd player). But, the motors are not interchangeable as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the advice.
