car lighter power supply question

Can you use a positive plug 4.5v 600mA power adaptor in a device that calls for a positive plug 4.5v 300mA adaptor without harming the device? They are both produced by the same company, the only difference is the mA rating.

Maybe.

Some power adapters are very loosely regulated (e.g., not "stiff") and only produce their rated output voltage when at or near their rated load. It's possible that the 600 mA adapter will run well above 4.5 V if it's only loaded to, say, 200 mA.
