[Ultra-cheap MM phono pre-amp]

I don't know of any new monolithics, though National used to make op-amps designed for phono pre-amps 25+ years ago.

AOOP (any old op amp) and some R's and C's for RIAA equalization would work fine for MP3 - sound quality isn't an issue - even an LM324 would do. 70's era ap-notes may be a help.

If assembly cost is an issue (like > 1 part) farm the manufacturing out to farm-wives or retirees from an electronics factory.

For starters, here are a few sites to look at for ideas. Your choice from extremely simple (OK but not great performance) to fairly elaborate (really fine performance).

Take a look and see if there's one or two that interest you, then maybe come back with specific questions.

Peter,

Unless you are interested in learning a good bit of electronics by doing the design yourself, try Googling for a "RIAA stereo phono preamp kit". You should be able to find a reasonably priced one that comes with a printed circuit board, a bag of parts and instructions for assembling it.

The *single 9V battery* is a problem. If you can spring for 2 batteries, things get easier.

I question the wisdom of that. You should try to find a hobbyist in your area who has built stuff before (local community college / high school / club).

You're joking. Right?

The PAIA link is just what you need.

You seem to be saying that you will be making several. James is right on the money with the kit suggestion. Again, PAIA.
