Researching Reconfigurable Computing

I've been looking into reconfigurable computing as a research topic for my final year project in Computer Science. I've pretty much settled on this topic but am struggling to figure out what exactly im going to do with it, I was thinking of my own implementation of a processor with some sort of custom function unit (in VHDL).

I've read a few papers on various implementations (GARP, Molen, etc) but still don't really have a comfortable grounding. Other than asking for more information that anyone would feel is helpful on this topic, does anyone have any ideas on specific areas of reconfigurable computing I could possibly look at?

I am tied to the Xilinx Virtex II Pro board
