8.1i SP2 download problems

Feb 14, 2006 3 Replies

I just tried downloading 8.1i SP2, after Xilinx recently 'improved' their download page.

I ended up in an endless loop of : 1) click on download link 2) allow script (IE6 SP2 message). 3) back to starting page with no download

I'd normally right click->save as to get around this, but the new Xilinx download page uses scripts instead of direct links to the files, which prevents one from right clicking to get the complete .exe

It took numerous tries of changing cookie/popup/script settings before I found the right one:

my original IE6 SP2 settings: Internet Options->Security->Default Level at "medium"

required change: Internet Options->Security->Custom Level-> Downloads->

automatic prompting for file downloads to "enable"

the problems with download are not so big issue if the download works at the end, but not fixing the bugs sure is

ISE 8.1SP2

1 "Alt-GR" on keyboard fixed !!! NICE !!! 2 wrong hotkey - not fixed, ok I can live with it 3
formatting link

not fixed! :( I just needed to make a real minor change to real simple PLD design, should take 1 minute to implement. but ISE 8.1SP2 project navigator just self terminates !!

Oh, well lets wait for SP3 !!!

I'm just using 8.x for simple test cases at the moment. To actually get any work done, I'm using 6.3 at home, 7.x at work.

BTW, thanks for your Embedded World notes:

Ass-sledges, along with sharp pointy sticks, can also be quite handy for dealing with buggy FPGA vendors :)

You can also do "View source" and then cut and paste the link to the executable directly into the address bar.

Cheers, Jon
