signal generator impedance

Aug 16, 2006 3 Replies

I have a signal generator with its output BNC labelled 50onms. What does it mean? Does it mean it has pure resistive 50ohms source impedance ? or Does it mean i have to terminate the coax i use with

50ohms from where i tap the signal?

Probably the first one. Chris

Yes.

For best results you should run the generator into a 50 ohm load. Then the output voltage should match the setting on the generator. Into an open circuit it will be close to twice the indicated voltage.
