photosensors

May 11, 2004 1 Replies

For a class project, we are constructing a skeeball machine. We need to purchase photosensors for each hole to detect the ball passing through. We are unfamiliar in this area, and would appreciate any help in directing us to the right photosensors and to the purchase location. Thank You!

try Radio Shack for their infrared emitter and detector pairs etc.

They also published a booklet by Forest Mims on Optoelectronics with a number of simple circuits which would work. Delton Horn with Tab books also published a guide to optoelectronics circuits for experiments (optoelectronics was the title IIRC) - probably available via interlibrary loan to most libraries?

A magazine like Nuts and Volts would have a number of parts sources ads which would provide low cost surplus components, if $$ are an issue and you need a lot of them ;-) The last bunch I salvaged some years ago came from a punched card reader, so that was some time ago ;-)
