New at Oscilloscope

I'm a tinkerer, working with electronics. just a hobby. I was wondering with all the options for oscilloscopes out there.. what would be the cheapest kind for a tinkerer?

Go visit a ham radio operator. Tell him you want a cheap scope and ask him to put out the word. Hams have spare scopes for their spare scopes stored in the basement. If you stay away from dealers and EBAY, you can get very nice scopes for dirt cheap. mike

Many large cities have HAM swap meets that are (usually) free to the public; some indoors and most outdoors, usually once a month from Feb to Oct but some go all year. If you post your town (or preferred town to shop in), some here may be able to tell you where some of these swap meets are in or nearby - sl;ong with the times.

I got a dual trace Tektronix 645 scope on E-Bay for $102! Came with a probe too and works great. You CAN get good deals there. Biggest problem I find with EBay items is that they rarely come with the test leads..Most of the gear is like that. Everyone must throw the stuff away!

I doubt that eBay listers throw anything away. I believe they sell everything in pieces thinking they will make more money that way.

How much did you need to pay for the bag of nuts, bolts, and screws that hold your 645 scope together?
