Hobby scope - Rigol 1102E vs Owon MSO7102t

Hi,

As an electronics hobbiest I am considering the purchase of my first oscilloscope. After some online research I narrowed down my choices to Rigol 1102E

and Owon MSO7102t

. Both are in my budget (700-800GBP). My current needs are limited to examining waveforms on my currently simple electronic projects and as a learning tool. I am unable to make a choice between these two and would be grateful for the opinions of other hobbiests like me, with more experience, and a better appreciation of the utility of various features. My interests are radio frequency / radio controlled electronics and embedded linux systems.

While both scopes have the same bandwith (100MHz) and sampling rate (1Gs/500Ms) Rigol seems to be better known, is known to use good quality parts and claims to manufacture some of the Agilent scopes. The advantages of the Rigol seem to be significantly deeper memory (1Mpts), a few more triggering options (Pulse, Slope, and Pattern), a better manual. Advantages of Owon seem to be larger screen and a very basic 66MHz (400Msa/s), 16 channel logic analyzer (not a true MSO).

Also If you own any of these two scopes I would be grateful for your opinion on it.

The Rigol is actually a more serious scope how ever, in your case, the owen may serve you better. Nice screen and logic unit to get you off the ground for basic digital event debugging.

That's just my opinion.

I have products from both ends.. Scopes(Owen+Rigol) and DSS Function generator(Rigol) , they all serve me well.

Of course, I have things in Fluke,HP and Tek... but who's counting.

Hi I buy this oscilloscope and i have only bad word for this

  1. To much noise in signal even if you connect probe to test point 1KHz on oscilloscope.
2, different level on same signal connected to ch1 deepening of CH2 is off or on.
  1. With signal more then 10 Mhz can not stabilize trigger and give clear picture on screen.
  2. USB driver is open source and full of bugs you must carefully chose PC witch want to work with this software .
  3. After 1 hour BNC connector become very hot and destabilize correction circuit inside probe.
  4. logic analyzer not exist on this scope this is a just nice game on screen . DOnt make same mistake and lose money like me . My 15 years old HP working perfect even hard use all this years , and this one you can buy on ebay for 200 us.
