We are seeking consultants for the position "Sr Embedded Software Engineer" for our client in Alameda, CA.

Job Title: "Senior Embedded Software Engineer"

Duration: 1 Year. Contract to Hire.

Location: Alameda, CA

Responsibilities =B7 Responsible for software and firmware designs and development to be used in medical diagnostic devices (both class II and III) =B7 Design of low level, board support package, and device driver software for systems with embedded microprocessors. =B7 Responsible for developing software for products under a disciplined product development process that meets FDA requirements. =B7 Working in a team environment to reach common objectives with aggressive schedules. Must be effective in =B7 Designing and implementing programs in C/C++ and assembly language as required =B7 Assisting in the preparation of software design requirements and detailed design specifications for implementation of software designs per Abbott design development process. =B7 Participating in establishing schedule for product development. =B7 Assisting in the evaluation of selected designs through testing/analysis and full documentation of the results. =B7 Working effectively with others to define requirements and resolve issues during product development including microprocessor selection and interface. =B7 Coordinating and working effectively with other departments to provide software support as needed. =B7 Minimum of four years of Software Structural and/or Object Modeling Design experience. =B7 Minimum five years experience in software development of embedded systems for low cost, high volume manufacturing Excellent troubleshooting skill is a must =B7 Strong debugging technique and experience on using debugger and ICE is required =B7 Familiar with Medical Device development process and FDA 510K and PMA regulatory requirement and process. =B7 Experience on RTOS, multi-task, real-time Software design and development is highly preferable. =B7 Experience on User Interface design and development in embedded device is a strong plus. =B7 Experience of using Visual State Machine is preferable. =B7 Knowledgeable on device driver and low level device interface design and development is a plus. =B7 Knowledgeable on microprocessor and microcontroller architecture is a strong plus.

Experience and Skills: Low level, HW interface, Board support package (BSP), boot loader, device drivers (USB, LCD,SPI, I2C, serial,...), Flash utility, RTOS experience, debuggers, JTAG, ARM9 processor is must, Motorola/FreeScale iMX family processor, ARM RealView ICE and Trace tools, C and Assembly code, power management, SW development for Battery operated devices.

Additional Experience:

=B7 Must conform to regulated process environment. =B7 A quick learner and self-motivated engineer =B7 Must deliver milestones on time.

Education BS/MS in EE or CS.

Hire & rate per hour ?

"Contract to hire" - That means (sub)contractor at an hourly rate first, becoming an permanent employee later if they like you, and the company did not go belly up, and they did not find somebody cheaper to do the same job.

why is this such a bad thing? (ignoring the fact that the guy shouldn't be posting jobs offered at all.)

If one works on a contract basis and the job suits, one doesn't have to accept the perm position when it's offered.

OTOH one may like the job so much that they take the perm position.

I certailny have no problem with a temp to perm job if the job's right for me

I did not said it is a bad thing, it certainly can work to the benefit of both the contractor/employee and the company.

Apparently Rene saw a contradiction between "Hire & rate per hour". I was just explaining the meaning commonly assigned to the expression "Contract to hire" in the west side of the pond.
