Hello,I wonder if anyone makes something like Parallax did with PIC, butpopulated with ARM ?Anyone selling DIP40 device with ARM and FPGA and ethernet? Withbootloader, RTOS and interpreter for fast prototyping?Digi has Connect ME device, but it is not DIP and anly 5 I/Os and UARTfrom the ARM device is accessible. Lantronix has Xport with 3 I/O andUART and they are releasing new Xport AR in November with 3 UARTs andaround 13 I/Os (if I am not mistaken).Did anyone put together an SBC size of DIP40 with modern embeddedcontroller? Or maybe there is an open design or open source projectruning?Well, in case there is not, I estimate the parts for such device may bearound $10 for ARM with integrated SDRAM/FLASH and $10 for FPGA plusfew $ for PCB, labour, connectors. The ethernet is a nice connectivityoption but definitely not a must.The prototyping could have RS232/TTL converter, DIP40 socket, 1 or 2A/D, few LEDs and prototyping area.With Lua interpreter the prototyping would be a breeze.I will apreaciate ideas, links, advices, concerns and parts suggestions(high integration low pin-count types).Thanks

We posted an update of the 100mmx100mm open source board at "pcb dotlinnix dot com / sbc1 dot html". But we need work on the Compact Flashand FPGA config flash. The board is headed in the right direction, butincomplete.The ARM (AT91RM9200) is around $20. 64M SDRAM is around $10. XilinxFPGA is arounf $15. Ethernet and USB Phy are around $10. It could bebuild for less than $100.There are two pin headers for expansion, i.e. 80 for FPGA and 50 formemory.Contact us if you are good at gSchem (schematic capture) and pcb(layout).

What do you mean by phantasy? There are actual soft ARM cores in 200K, PPC cores in 300K FPGAs. What do you think the micro manufacturers use for prototypes?

1M gates FPGA is mid-range. 5M gates can be yours, if you send us a cashier check.

I agree, there seems to be tendency to overkill. The whole ARM core is

30k transistors; 1mil gates FPGA for $hundreed(s) just to immitate ARM core for 5 bucks ... nonsense

Anyone selling an ASIC, something like AT91SAMX but bundled with PHY ?

Impossible to do it in 30k. Unreasonable to buy FPGA with less than

200k. You are the one asking for FPGA. Have you find any ARM with FPGA for less than $100? You are not only asking for ARM, but ethernet, Sdram, CF and custom FPGA gates.

Have you guys really look into the FPGA market?
