Coldfire MCF5475 IO pin question

Aug 22, 2006 2 Replies

I have a MCF5475 which I need to work out which pins, when configured for GPIO are input (or input and output). I don't want any which are output only.

Looking at the reference manual (Table 2-1 if anyone has a copy!) I see the following columns:

PBGA Pin Pin Functions (Primary - GPIO - Secondary - Tertiary) Description I/O Drive Reset State

Most of these I know what they mean - however the I/O isn't clear. I've seen a range of values in that column, specifically: I, O, I/O, I:I/O and O:I/O. I'm guessing that I means input, O means output, I/O means Input and output - but what about the I:I/O and O:I/O?

For example - there is one line TOUT2 which can be configured for GPIO, however after much investigation, I found does not work for input. In one table I found the statement: "General purpose input is not possible on the TOUT2 pin". In this table above, I see it listed as O:I/O.

We're currently successfully using 5 lines for input. They're listed as O:I/O, I:I/O and I/O.

Any hints as to what this syntax means? I cannot find it explained in the documentation.

Incidentally, any idea what the Drive column means? I see figures of 8,

16, 24 and - in various entries.

Thanks

David

Check Table 6 in the "Electrical characteristics" pdf file (MCF5475EC.pdf). There I see output capabilities of 8, 16, and 24 mA for various pins. Smells of coincidence.

Aha - thanks for that. I assume therefore that the figures are only listed for pins which are available for output.

Thanks
