I have some 12vdc relays. I need them for a automotive circuit. They are 1440 ohm coils. If i hook them directly to the battery, will it burn them up. Do I need a resiter?

If they are rated for 12 volt DC operation, they should work fine in this application. The voltage will be about 13.8 volts when the motor is running, but they should handle that extra bit. The coils will produce 13.8*13.8/1440= 0.132 watts. It is hard to overheat a coil with such a small power.
Thank you.
