Two 6V fluorescents in series = 12V drop?

Can I put two Leviton L00-6511-6 fluorescents in series with a 12V source? See:

They come with a jack for external 6V.

If not, how can I use them with an external 12V battery, short of wasting half of my battery's energy in a regulator or resistor.

Probably, you can\'t. Each ballast is going to have its own response and it\'ll want to draw current from the supply on its own terms, and if there\'s another ballast in series with it they\'ll both be limited by each other\'s quirks. The answer? Feed them both from a 6V source, in parallel.

You could use a switching regulator to get 6V with a lot less loss than a linear.

Good Luck! RIch
