New to usegroup - question

Nov 26, 2007 13 Replies

Hello,

I have been searching all over for a simple photo led circuit that can act as a counter. Counts one every time the beam is broken. Can anybody direct me to such a simple circuit on the internet?

Thanks, m-coon

What do you mean by "photo led?"

Hey, aren't you the one who normally storms in and criticises other people for being unhelpful ?

I'd say he wants a counter that's triggered by interrupting a light beam.

I don't know what you mean by "am I the guy who.................", I have never been to this website ever before. ?????????????????????? My name is Scott DuVall and I am a tech for an amusement park. Is there another user with a similar username here?

You are correct that I am looking to build a circuit that will trigger a 12v meter everytime the LED beam is broken to the opposing photo transister.

Thanks, mcoon

It will not be difficult, but there are probably as many ways of implementing it as there are contributors to this ng. You will find plenty of circuits for counters using Google. Also circuits for the first part. You just have to tie them together

That's a pot calling the kettle black.

Good show mate.

Nope, I'm the one who normally tries to gather as much information as possible before submitting a design in order to save everyone involved as much grief as possible. In this case he might be referring to an LED used as a photodetector, a photodiode (in either photovoltaic or reverse-biased mode) excited by an LED, or maybe even an LDR excited by an LED. Unless he states what he's working with, offering suggestions is just pissing in the wind. Something, no doubt, you're familiar with...

This isn\'t a website, it\'s a USENET newsgroup. >My >name is Scott DuVall and I am a tech for an amusement park. Is there >another user with a similar username here?

Or, Oops, the rather obvious one I missed, LED into phototransistor, which is, it seems, the OP\'s lineup. So let\'s see a design, burrito.

As Fields said: :This isn't a website, it's a USENET newsgroup. :

*Clueless* Google Groupers are reviled on Usenet. The more you learn, the less you will be marginalized.

If you are going to use Google's Web-to-Usenet interface, do learn to use it effectively. To see **how the topic is threaded** (who is talking to whom), go to the Subject stripe near the top of the page. Click *Options*, then *View as tree*. The /browse_thread/ in the URL becomes /browse_frm/ . . Most people don't use Google to get to Usenet (and don't see what you see).

Most people use a newsreader.

. . WRT your Subject line: "Usenet group" or "Newsgroup"--NOT "usegroup". . In addition, the less detail you give about what you are trying to do, the less useful the responses are.

No, I'm replying to the guy who said "What do you mean by "photo led?"

I suggest you learn how Usenet works before getting in a paddy about who said what to whom. Better still, get a newsreader, a free news account (e.g. news.aioe.org) and access Usenet properly.

Hint - it's NOT Google Groups which merely offers a very broken interface to Usenet.

I believe you're the one 'owing' a design.

A good place to start would be to tell us if this is some existing counter you already have and its type e.g. electro-mechanical / electronic or whether this is a new project from scratch.
