there are variuos sites that offer understading in electronics through the use of java applets and animations.can these applets really harm the pc while being downloaded from the net.if yes could you care to explain me how?thanx in advance

No they can't unless you explicitly give them the permission to do so. By default they can't access anything on your computer, and can only make connections to the website they originate from. More permissions are requested by a dialog box and must be explicitly allowed by the user.
