Charging a battery with 9V1A instead of 9V2A

A portable DVD player originaly used a 9 volt 2 amp charger for its battery. Can a 9 volt 1 Amp charger be used instead. How will this effect the charging or battery? Thanks.JB

Either the charger will burn out or the time to charge will be doubled.

Depends on the battery capacity and the new charger. While the old charger was rated at 2 amps, it is possible/probable that the battery drew less than that. If it did draw > 1 amp, then you can still charge it with a 1 amp charger (although it will take longer), provided the charger is designed to protect itself against excessive current draw by limiting the current.
