I'm trying to get an AC adapter for a sega megdrive, would it need to fit the exact specifications? (9-10V 850mA DC)Im finding it had to find an adaptor with these exact specifications.
Thanks, Boot.

You should stay at the same voltage range but it shouldn't hurt if it had a higher current rating.
The voltage should be kept in the recommended rage but the current rating can be higher. Tom

Always look here first for wall warts:
As Tom said, you can go higher on the amps.
--- If it needs to be 9-10V out from no-load to full load, your best bet would be to buy a regulated supply. Here are a couple from CUI Stack / Digi-Key that'll work for you:
9VDC ±5%, 1300mA, $15.88 Digi-Key P/N T460-P5P-ND 9VDC ±2%, 1100mA, $19.72, Digi-Key P/N T363-P5P-NDDon't worry about the current, that's the maximum that can be taken from the supply without the output voltage going out of spec. If you take less, the adapter will just run cooler and the output voltage _might_ rise to 5% or 2% above 9 volts, depending on which one you get.

Be aware that if the AC adapter is unregulated you don't want to get too much higher in current than what it called for. If you do you may find that the voltage supplied to your load is higher than what the circuitry is designed to handle.
