Actually several of them may or may not work depending on all the unstated part values. Oh, now i remember you post topologies that might work if proper parts values were used, but you never calculate anything through around here.

They will all work. I don't know if you can figure out how to make them work. If you have to ask, I assume you can't.

Sometimes I post schematics with values, sometimes Spice sims, sometimes sheets from actual products.

until I provide it a voltage drop of 5.6V, and since it's in series with some other stuff (resistors and an LED) I thought it would definitely be off at 5V, but it's on just enough to turn on my FET M1 and not let my D4 LED light up... I'm basically measuring a little over 1V at the gate.

maybe, but why is D1 turning on at all? Is it leakage current that's causing this circuit not to work at 5V? D3 the 12V LED is definitely off at a 5V supply (as it should be) and the circuit works at 12V... but not at 5V...

I mostly post circuits. If you perceive my circuits as "braggadocio" you must think that they are pretty good. Thanks for the compliment.

Your LED thing is OK, but it does have a dead zone. You could eliminate that and reduce the parts count by taking the output of one comparator, inverting it, and driving the second LED.

I'm being killfiled and stalked at the same time. JT is unclear on some concepts here. [1]

Pick one of my 5/12 volt LED circuits, one you think can't work, and do just that. Demonstrate that it can't work.

[1] the pretend killfile nonsense lets him evade criticism. He's clearly a coward.

You can't tell that for sure (*).. after all, it's a Larkin "design", thus no component values >:-} I'd guess that NOLA white trash can't do even simple-minded math.

(*) Burn enough current and you can swamp out beta effects.

Like I said, those that are so slow-witted that they can't see the obvious problem with Larkin's "design", simply run it in LTspice.

Unfortunately most of Larkin's butt-buddies aren't even capable of doing that. ...Jim Thompson
