Do you really need dummies? You can just design a board and build one, and it will probably work. And unless the pin count is really high, you can likely buy real parts in the same package as cheap as dummies.

I have a new project starting and it will be using QFN parts.
Does anyone know where to buy qfn dummy components ??
Google has hits, but not where to buy.

and search on "training." I agree with John, though. Just go ahead and dive in. The tack-wipe-wick method is *reasonably* foolproof; just take your time. You'll want one of those fold-out 10x magnifiers and good lighting for inspection and, possibly, some ChipQuik if you decide it's totally borked and you need to start over.

and search for qfn. Then click on a product group which looks inexpensive, e.g. I/O expanders. You'll get 28-QFN,
20-QFN, 16-HVQFN, 16-TQFN etc., each one for about 1 or 2 dollar (only the highest count chips, like 40-TQFN, are more expensive).
