The one I have is set up for POTS. You DTMF the code. Elite has one with IP access, but only for programming access codes.

POTS uses a standard "call progress detection" mode which makes it easy to interface, especially since the technology can be stolen from old wireline modems. Cellular phones are not as standardized.

These gates are only useful to keep out honest people. Once you own one and understand how they work, there are at least half a dozen ways to force the gate to open.

If there is a particular gate you want to hack, here is a tidbit. Gates that are shared have their own address, i.e. different from the owners address. So if you want to find the phone number of the gate, you may be able to find the address in public records, then from the address, find the phone number.

It's like a cell phone but instead of the vibrator motor there's a relay that switches and activates the "open the gate" action pretty much the same principle as remote detonators, but with better build quality.

dial the number: phone rings and triggers the gate. nothing answers the phone: nobody pays for a call.
