Getting back to the Romanov's, same thing goes for inbred monarchy. The mes s they made of things in WWI Russia by way of thoroughly and mindlessly des troying agricultural production was the ultimate incompetence. And to think Nicholas II was so delusional he believed his poorly led, poorly trained, and undersupplied amateur army was going to take on and defeat the professi onal Prussian dominated German army. In that war, Russia invaded Germany an d not the other way around. The war was strictly an offense on their part a nd they were going to pursue it to the bitter end excluding consideration o f every other consequence. As it was, it took over 10 years after the war to straighten out their mess.

Since you are very eager to discuss "white trash" could you please explain to us what "black trash " is ?
deas about "the leading role of the party" until rather later - they got hi m thrown out of the international socialist movement in 1871, on the ground s that they were un-democratic and likely to lead to tyranny, as indeed the y did, but not for another fifty years or so.
That's the "leading role of the party" approach - and they all see themselv es as members of "the party".
It's one more brand of collective insanity. Socialism is about doing the ri ght thing for whole of society, and there are a whole lot of people who wan t to concentrate on doing the right thing to the whole of society, even if most of the society doesn't happen to be on board with it.
Reminds me of that discussion I had with someone here about black people "refusing to assimilate" which I thought was odd, as often, though not always, the person making the statement is some late 19th century European immigrant while many American black families have been in America since well before the end of slavery, obviously.
Assimilate to what! is a question I'd certainly ask myself if I were in their position. To the standards of some European who's grandparents showed up voluntarily 150 years after mine did, involuntarily? You should assimilate to them! Start listening to hip hop immediately!
Some 1895-arriving 3rd generation Ellis Island-donkey's son telling Americans who've been here a century longer "you need to assimilate to my culture", what nonsense.
Amazon star reviews are:
Average rating = positive ratings / total ratings, and not:
Average rating = lower bound of Wilson score confidence interval for a Bernoulli parameter
so it sounds like it's run by programmers to me.
So it's actually a four-star rating system with one star being the worst instead of 0.
This one goes to 11:
True. The reviews are also full of fake, contrived, and fake reviews, but we'll just average those in to make their effect disappear.
Using the Wilson score was a statement by critics of Amazon, not by Amazon employees. That suggests that Amazon employees and programmers are afraid of zero, like everyone except programmers.
How to Build a 5 Star Rating System with Wilson Interval in MySQL:
Javascript code to produce the Wilson score:
I haven't tried searching yet, but I suspect I would have a difficult time finding any shopping site on the web that uses the proper Wilson score to produce its average customer rating number.
Back to working on the election ballot and selecting the least of the available evils. Too bad zero or "none of the candidates" are not an acceptable option. Like Amazon, politics is not run by programmers.
That's why automobile speedometers would go up to 150 mph even though the automobile would only go maybe 85 mph before losing control or shaking violently. It's the perception that the vehicle might go that fast which gave the desireable impression of speed.
Did you know that you have 11 fingers? Start counting down on one hand. 10 - 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 and 5 more is 11. Proof that you have 11 fingers.
I wonder if 10 turn Helipots are really exactly 10 turns? I have some
10T pots and will try it (later).
The only person the real Marxists hate more than Trump is Joe "Status Quo" Biden and Kamala "The Jailer" Harris, hope that doesn't complicate things too much
As a graduate student I once checked out a Beckman ten-turn pot against a ( much more expensive and much larger) laboratory voltage divider. It was fi ne. The biggest source of error was getting the turns-counting dial clamped onto the spindle of the potentiometer at exactly the right spot to avoid a n offset zero.
Is 198 mph through traffic not a reasonable speed?
How about speaking standard American English? Teaching one's kids the standard language and manners?
If I moved to France, I'd want to learn to speak good French and behave properly by local standards. A subset of African-Americans speak a very distinct language that has its own accent and uses different tenses to express time sequences.
My ancestors came from Ireland and Germany and donated to and merged into the common culture. As have my asian and hispanic and black friends and employees. Well, Rhonda talks kinda black but she's great and hugs me a lot.
It's not a White culture, it's not a British or European culture, it's our common culture. If people want to be different, they shouldn't complain that they are treated different.
There is no "Standard American English"! There are over 100 dialects of American English, some of them almost mutually unintelligible.
Standard American English?
Standard American English?
Standard American English?
???????
Thanks. However, that doesn't determine if the Helipot was limiting rotations at exactly 10 turns, or if it was the dial was stopping at exactly 10 turns. It's been too long since I tried it to recall how it worked.
My guess(tm) is that if the pot is going to provide 0.5% linearity, the pot has to stop at exactly 10.0. The dial can try to go further, but the pot will stop rotation at 10.0.
I have a box of such pots (somewhere) to try. Yet another project.
Perhaps the 15 turn versions were made for devices and users that needed to go past 10?
Drivel: In early college, we were allowed to bring slide rules to exams, but not calculators. I contrived an analog computer consisting of log amps, a summer, some inverters, and an anti-log amp. It was to be the beginnings of an all analog electronic slide rule. For inputs, I used 10 turn helipots. For output, a large meter with a reflecting dial. Everything barely fit inside a brief case. Somewhat like an portable version of one of these analog computers but using switches instead of the patch panel: It worked somewhat for multiplying and dividing two or even three digit numbers at the low end of the scale, but could only handle one digit at the high end. That made it nearly useless, but that didn't stop me from trying to persuade various instructors to allow me to use it. I eventually convinced several to allow my analog computer for exams, but by then, small 4 function calculators and the HP35 had become available, which were much better (and more accurate). I graduated before the issue was completely settled.
I later repeated my mistake by building a mobile phone and a "TV typewriter" inside briefcases. Neither was successful, but I did learn an important lesson. Avoid using briefcases for such projects.
It's dangerous to let the GOP run an economy.
"Stupid is, is stupid does" is the slogan of the GOP, there is no scam or hustle these clowns won't fall for in UTTER confidence that they're the ones actually pulling off the scam, and not the ones being scammed.
The turns counting dial would count up to 15 turns (if I remember rightly) and the pot spindle stopped rotating at 10 turns.
You need to tighten up the collet-lock hard enough that the turns-counting dial didn't get to creep around the spindle when you hit the pot's limit of rotation.
That's what I remember.
I think that there were 15-turns pots around.
The first portable computers were better descried as luggable.
My wife gave me a back-pack with special compartment for my lap-top computer. It's great for international travel.
In a better world it would be good for job inteviews - not that I've had one for a couple of years now. Employers ought to be interested in what you can do with your laptop computer, but the job-interview format is totally inflexible and ossified.

lain to us what "black trash " is ?
Who is "our"??? I don't think I've ever talked to people from two differen t towns who didn't have different accents. There's a place just 50 miles f rom here where the locals have such a thick accent that they are barely und erstood by folks from anywhere else.
I see all manner of different customs in the many places I live all within a few hours drive. My hometown was settled by Germans with a set of custom s which some still observe while others are from many places and observe th eir customs. Further north are the Pennsylvania Dutch and the various othe r groups who preserve customs from hundreds of years ago. Then nearby in B altimore are a unique set of customs specific to that city. A bit further south in DC a set of customs has developed that I've not seen anywhere else . Still further south is Richmond where they practice various sets of cust oms depending on which socioeconomic class you are in, very different.
The idea that in the US there is anything like a "common culture" is not in line with the facts. The actual facts, not alternate facts that someone w ishes were the real facts.
I remember as a child thinking that others should adapt and assimilate. Th at was before I had much understanding. Once I moved away for school and l earned a bit about cultures I changed my opinion. Now I understand why peo ple want to be themselves rather than like everyone else. I'm no longer a child.
l
I seem to recall it was neither. Both the pot and the dial would go past 1
0, not by much, but enough to allow for zero offsets.Me too, CHEM 204, a lab with a once a week lecture. Calcs were new and ver y expensive. They considered them to be an extravagance that not all could afford creating an unfair advantage. They had a small lab room with a sin gle counter, maybe 10 feet long. Three large typewriter looking mechanical calculators were on the counter my first year. Second year there were thr ee HP-65 calculators... epoxied to the counter to keep them from walking aw ay.
And here I was thinking that I should mount my test fixture into a briefcas e. Maybe not a good idea.
