Utility Power Meters

But wheeled vehicles, electric motors, batteries, motor controls... those are not brand new. Only a few fiddly connecting bits (like recharging stations and main-battery lifetimes) are associated with risks.

The old risks (exemplified by the 'last gas for 200 miles' sign) were manageable.

nd current (simultaneously) at a rate much higher than the AC period and us e the sum of the products over a time period (typically a multiple of the A C period) to measure power. Then apparent power is calculated (if needed) by calculating the RMS of each the voltage and current over the same time p eriod and calculating the product. From these two the reactive power and p ower factor can be calculated.

what is going on?

Yes, but to get energy they integrate or sum power over time. If they don' t get the power right, they can't get the energy right.
