But wheeled vehicles, electric motors, batteries, motor controls... those are not brand new. Only a few fiddly connecting bits (like recharging stations and main-battery lifetimes) are associated with risks.

The old risks (exemplified by the 'last gas for 200 miles' sign) were manageable.

Yes, but to get energy they integrate or sum power over time. If they don' t get the power right, they can't get the energy right.
