USB endoscope review

I finally got this endoscope after 33 days, from China via dog sled.

It's good enough for the price, but since ordering I found another one with much better resolution for $10 more.

It's 22 feet instead of 30, but a customer posted a video (on the Amazon page) that confirms it has better resolution and better light sensitivity than the one I got.

It claims to be 2M pixel and the customer says it isn't that good, but mine is only 640x480 and the video proves it is better.

There is also this one, which appears to have a 15 foot cable but the same semi-HD camera, and a customer posted a youtube video of that also. It's clearly better than mine.

The two models with the better camera also do not ship from China and are available via second-day.

I bought the 2MP version from Buyincoins.com for $16.45. But they shipped the 640x480 version. They were unable to ship the correct one, but did refund $12, so I guess I'm happy.

I suppose it will be useful looking into dark places, but it really shines as an inspection microscope substitute. Far better depth of field.

I soldered a fuse clip onto an alligator clip and clip the camera to a gooseneck lamp. My computer monitor is a little farther away than I like, so I put VNC on an old tablet and can put the display anywhere convenient.

Most of the USB cameras have latency. For real inspection work you want a real-time display if possible.

I use a small LCD NTSC monitor but these also come with hand held monitor (same seller). The NTSC output can be recorded if need be with any digitizer in the PC, or even VHS for hours.

Mainly use it to look into ears of job applicants to see if brain is present.

I think this one is pretty good, and especially small diameter. And the resolution in pixels is not so important IMNSHO, but if you can get close and still in focus.
