USB CABLE

HIYA ALL I NEED TO FIND SOME ONE THAT CAN BUILD A 15MTR USB TO USB CABLE CAN ANY ONE HELP?

USB is only good (reliable) for 5 meters.

I have two 10 meter cables I purchased to play around with when USB was first introduced. Neither of them work.

They are extension cables, so they will plug together and give you 20 meters of male to female cable that doesn't work.

But if you are interested, I can think of a price plus postage, and my problem will become your problem. :-)

Unless you know something I don't.

It is not possible to make a 15 mtr USB standard compliant cable, due to one-way propagation delay limit of 26 ns (see section 7.1.16 of USB

2.0 standard)

It is of course possible to make a 15 mtr cable with USB plugs on it, but there will be no guarantee that it works, and you can't legally put the USB logo on it.

What about "USB Active Extension Cables"? Supposedly cascadable 5 x 5m -->

25m Personally I've never seen or used one.

As long as they have a real hub inside, they should work fine. Since these are bus powered, they'll eat some of the 500 mA budget, which might be a problem in some applications.

Also, the USB spec allows up to 7 tiers, one of which is the root , and the other is the device itself, allowing a maximum of 5 hubs to be chained inbetween, including any hubs already implemented inside the PC itself.

If it's not commercial try experimenting with some DC-DC converters and high speed opto couplers - pump up the voltages to stop leakage - much like the transmission of mains power. At the other end do the opposite to get back to your standard USB levels. Oh yes and before you go and blame me - I've never tried this so it could wreck anything attached - test THOROUGHLY.

... good for currents up to 100mA of consumption ... (or 200mA for 10,5m for example + 2x half m standard Usb shielded cable added at the ends...)
