Update to AoE's "selects MOSFETs" table?

Anyone care to suggest their favorite readily available & sanely priced MOSFET? I'm looking at AoE's table on page 126, and some of the ones they suggest such as the 2N4351 don't seem too horribly available anymore. (I am after those designed to be used in their linear region, not just "digital FETs" that are aimed mainly at switching applications.)

That's still available, although it's more affordable and readily stocked if the die is in a plastic package.

What are you tying to do? The 2n4351 was a rather wimpy yet expensive part and isn't so popular anymore. Small discrete enhancement-mode MOSFETs like the sd210 may be better suited, depending on what you're trying to do. And "digital" parts like the 2n7000 can be used in the "subthreshold" linear region just fine, of course, but you may find they have too much capacitance, depending on what you're trying to do...

Oldie but goldie: How about the BF998? Dual gate MOSFET. You get a real hot rod for around 10c in large qties. At least one of these should be listed in the new AoE since there is a surprising number of engineers who don't know anything about transistors used in TV sets. Heck, I have met some who didn't know that dual gates existed.

In the more modest frequency ranges I have done lots of linear stuff with the old BSS123. Around 5c. It's similar to the 2N7002, higher Rdson (which you probably don't care about here) but also higher voltage.

Primarily mess around with building some discrete amplifiers, current sources, and "linear resistors"... initially so slow anything would work, and eventually up to some mid-tens of MHz. Pretty low power levels -- generally not more than a watt.

Essentially I was after the 2N3055, 2N3904 & 2N3906 of MOSFETs... and JFETs, for that matter.
