I've seen Kapton/Polyimide Litz wire used, but yes, stripping is difficult. Molten NaOH is supposed to be the best way, but the people I saw doing it were burning and scraping.
An overall insulation is all I need, there are no skin depth issues. I'm quite happy with my method, but off-the-shelf is easier.
