Tilt Switch

The measurement has to be differential to be any accurate.

There are similar non-contact tilt sensors using a capsule filled with magnetic liquid inside LVDT-like coil.

Liquid tilt sensors can be pretty accurate, but their problem is that vibration or rotation kills the measurement.

There are also inclinometers based on the thermal convection of a gas or a liquid inside. They get the inclination from the temperature gradients along the flow.

That's easy.

You just posted a link instead of a part number.

Like the bubble of a spirit level, except that it uses gas and thermal sensors along the length? Id bet that the tube would be bent in an arc.

That is how a pinball "slam switch" works. The force direction no longer matters at that point.

That tilt switch is a slightly different animal.

So could the Egyptians. You're only about 5000 years into obsolescence this time.

It's difficult to move much dirt with a garden hose.

Chuckle... Actually, the question would be, just whom do *you* think they learned it from? It wasn't JT, that's for sure.

And, are you sure about your choice?

I think they did it on their own. So all you "Alien" dopes can go on speculating.

They did irrigation for their crops. I think they can grasp what "level" is when pools of water are involved. I'd bet they knew it a couple thousand years before they started building Pyramids too.

All of their construction was pretty tight. Stone builders in the Mnts. of Peru were something else... altogether, however. They cut stone in ways that would pose problems for us to match to this day.

So, you've never used a water level?

Sure, but I've always had to use a shovel too.

Wimp! Try it where you need a pick.

I'm the wimp and you were going to use a garden hose!

Yawn. The garden hose is part of the water level. The newer version uses a small, clear vinyl tubing that pushes onto a barb on the base of each level. One mistake a lot of people make is not making sure the entire level is either in the sdhade, or in the hot sun.

The pick is to break up rock that you can't move with a shovel which has been every place but one, when I needed a water level.

Where is this signal going? If its the digital world, there are a number of tilt sensors integrated with A/D functions and digital I/O that will plug into a uC. All signal conditioning already done for you.
