What is the relation between the distance of thermopile and the heat source and the thermpile voltage?
In commercial IR temperature meter using thermopile, how do they measure the distance commmonly? Using ultrasonic? Or need to keep a contant fixed distance during measurement?

If the heat source fills the field of view of the thermopile, and if the thermopile is adequately filtered (I assume it is) then the distance has a very weak effect (like, don't worry unless it's kilometers). So a commercial IR temperature meter wouldn't have you measuring distance, but _would_ assume that you're filling the thermopile's field of view.

I think a thermopile measures the actual temperature difference between two points (at the two ends of the pile), Change the temperature of either end or both, and the reading will change to reflect the change in the difference. You need to understand where the two temperatures are in the device you are using to understand what it is measuring.
