Lots of quantum effects are a tad hard to believe, but this one is several tads harder than most - entanglement does not allow the transfer of information faster than the speed of light.

No. White phosphorus glows in the dark because it slowly oxidizes to phosphorus pentoxide. It doesn't respond to ionizing radiation in that way.

A mixture of plutonium dust and ground white phosphorus might give a spectacular flash and result in a young dog.

Think about it.

Pu gets bad press. I think the "most toxic" credit is a contest between botulism toxin and diptheria toxin, and "most carcinogenic" is probably aflatoxin, from the mold that grows on peanuts (assuming you exclude viruses.)

I think for the serious bacterial toxins, one molecule kills one cell.

Except that Pu is one of the nastiest known chemical poisons.

Hardly. Pu toxicity is greatly exaggerated (and often by the popular press).

So it must not be as dangerous as the hysteria says. THey should take the reactor waste and take out the 238 Pu and make atomic batteries for houses and cars! I wonder how it'd do in a Nerva rocket?

Yeah, I looked this up too, before posting:

The LD50 for Pu from cancer due to radiation is something like 200 micrograms, making it about 1000 times more toxic than arsenic monoxide.

The LD50 for prompt poisoning is around 25 mg by inhalation, vs 50 mg for hydrogen cyanide.

How bad do you want it to be?

Almonds?

I understand that if H2S ever starts to smell good, you're approaching the lethal dose.

There a mushroom collectors club around here that sometimes collects the lethal phalloides (sp?) shrooms, sautees them with a little butter and garlic, eats them, and spits them out. They're supposed to be excellent.

One time, in high school, somebody set off a H2S stink bomb in one of the bathrooms. It cleared two corridors and half of two other floors. One of the teachers claimed, [I paraphrase] "Hydrogen sulfide is even more poisonous than hydrogen cyanide, but it's detectable at such low levels that, as you can see down the hall, people will get away from it before they die."

1,000 hits of psilocybin a week", in a test tube full of agar, as long as you observe proper clean room procedures, such that you don't raise colonies of staph and strep...
