Strings Attached To Warp Speed Grants

This is a big one: "McKesson Corporation (NYSE: MCK) will expand its existing partnership with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to support the U.S. government? ?s Operation Warp Speed (OWS) team as a centralized distributor of future COVID-19 vaccines and ancillary supplies needed to administer vaccinations . Vaccines and related supplies will be delivered to point-of-care sites ac ross the country at the U.S. government?s direction."

McKesson has an unbelievable history of really questionable business practi ces going way back- as in 80 years back.

The offenses are tabulated here:

No wonder Pfizer, which didn't take an OWS grant, won't touch them. They wi ll distribute their vaccine themselves.

This doesn't actually specify what the strings attached to the Warp Speed g rants actually are. Trump is a crook and his administrative team does seem to include a lot of crooks.

Warp Speed was a scheme to make the Trump administration look as if it was doing something about the Covid-19 epidemic in the US, by co-opting existin g projects.

It's not unreasonable to expect that the deals involved kick-backs to frien ds of the administration, but without details of such features, it's just a plausible suspicion.

If you click on the highlighted dollar amount for those federal fines, it b rings up the details page such as this one:

Those reports of inflated prices to First DataBank (FDB), a publisher of dr ug prices, did much more than rob Medicaid. Many private health insurance p lans also index into that database to determine the "coinsurance" payments due on drugs of certain tiers in their formulary. So they ended up robbing a bunch of people too. This act alone should have resulted in their license being pulled permanently.

Before this, during the Obama years, The DEA had enough evidence collected for a criminal prosecution for illegal distribution of opioids on a really grand scale. The Obama/Biden administration justice department refused to p ursue it.

These people should absolutely not be awarded any government contract of an y type, level or amount.

Perfectly true, but this isn't a Warp Speed problem, it's just an aspect o f a broader problem with US health care.

At least some of the opioid crooks did get prosecuted in the US

"Misrepresenting the risk of addiction proved costly for Purdue. On May 10, 2007, Purdue Frederick Company Inc, an affiliate of Purdue Pharma, along w ith 3 company executives, pleaded guilty to criminal charges of misbranding OxyContin by claiming that it was less addictive and less subject to abuse and diversion than other opioids, and will pay $634 million in fines"

This was before Obama came to power. Presumably this was the smoking gun ca se, and there might not have been a lot of crooks left for Obama to prosecu te.

Australian TV recently ran an hour-long feature on the subject.

We're not talking about Purdue, we're talking about McKesson. DEA news release detailing wrongdoing in the 2009-2013 period. Story repres ents tip of iceberg. DEA had enough of a case to jail executive management of the operation.

You're another moron who can't figure anything out unless it's spelled out with flashing lights. But their brazen behavior gives away the fact of conf idence in political protection. As for the $150M fine, they could care less

- let the investors take the hit- they could are less.
