Shift Register w/Driver

--
That won't work because if you use "4" to both reset the counter and
pull the serial input of the shift register high, "4" will go low as

Ok. The 4017 would have been fine for the single pattern, but with multiple patterns you need more, or different, than just it alone. John Fields will probably post a full schematic, once the requirements are clear. :-) I see where he has already mentioned one possible chip.

As to your question about the Panasonic LN21CPH LED at 20 mA, that's the test current. It will work over a wide range of current, from around 1 mA to a maximum of 25 mA, per the datasheet. The more current a LED gets, the brighter it is. I usually run LEDs a lot lower than maximum. Likely less than 10 mA would be plenty bright enough for me using that LED. YMMV

Sorry for being slow on this reply.

Supply Voltage: 12v LED: LN21CPH Resistance 1200 - 1500 ohms (~6 - ~8 mA w/1 LED per leg) Shift Register: TPIC6B595 Timer: 555 Counter: 4017 (need recommendation)

I know I originally stated the I wanted 2 LEDs per leg and still do, preferably in parallel (So I don't have to run a lot of wires to make them series). But I can solve that after I get the first part bread-boarded and working. Probably still need to run the LED(s) from driver ?

Thanks

John, Thanks for pointing out that issue with the timing, I did not foresee it.
