Hypotheses that turn out to be untenable aren't fairy stories, and the people who repeated them weren't following a parrot script.
In this case lots of data about planets around other stars was the evidence that made the old hypotheses untenable, which is science working just the way it ought to.
Jan is the parrot here, articulating insults about a process he clearly doesn't understand.
