So, back to the AD5933. A development board costs ~ $60. Throw it in a case and write some s/w to drive it from my PC.

It looks like it's performance is in line with the SRS bridge as far as I can tell (I may have overlooked something). Its nothing like a real network analyzer, of course. The down side to such equipment is the need to lug a laptop around with it. But most RLC bridges are bench equipment anyway.

My core 2 duo netbook runs Win7 snappily and is half the size and weight of the SRS bridge.

That's not such a downside anymore these days. I can't even remember my last business trip without either a laptop or a netbook.

Of course, pretty soon manufacturers of such gear will have to think about how to hook it to a smart phone instead.
