i have a usb flash drive that was not working. when i opened i found that the flash memory chip was loose of its soldering. i was wondering if it will work if i get a new chip , possibel larger size and installed it on my usb, will it work?

i believe it use a NAND chip,
With older ones it might. But rumor is some of the newer ones store the firmware for the control chip in the data flash, so on those it would not.
Why not resolder the original chip?
Also, I would not be suprised if you can buy a flash stick on sale/rebate for less than the price of a NAND flash chip - certainly for less than the cost of the chip + needing to buy any equipment to aid in installing it.
well, the original capacity of the drive was a mesery 6mb, i wanted to increase capacity! Alsoi like the case of the drive, plus gives me a little project to do.
If you live somewhere that has a convention center, you'll find that at computer/electronics show these days 32MB and even 64MB key drives are now often free giveaways. :-)
