In general, management won't adopt what it cannot understand.

A lot of times they look me in the eyes at the end of the first meeting. "And you really think THAT will work?" ... "Yep, it should." ... "Ok, then, let's rock."

They don't hire consultants for mundane stuff. In some cases they put their reputation with VCs on the line by trusting me and a few others. WRT analog many times the guys on staff don't have the foggiest what I'll be designing for them until the module spec has reached enough maturity for first draft reading. In smaller companies there may not be anyone who understands that stuff and it just gets filed away.
