But RJ45 with PoE IS a one-cable-per-device system already.
USB-C isn't a panacea, it's still necessary on a powerbank style battery to have TWO kinds of USB connector, because the power inlet and outlet are not interchangeable. The which-end-supplies-power problem was one of the most confusing aspects of SCSI wiring, decades ago. Those 'terminator' resistors were powered PULLUP resistors, and only polyfuse power connections saved the SCSI scheme through the 1990s.
We just got the first batch of ten rail splitter boards in from JLCPCB.
They work great--if you short either side of the wart to ground, the FETs open up and latch that way until you cycle the power. It's also polarity-protected, of course.
These ones get clamped to a metal baseplate with a thermal gap pad to cool the TCA0372.

Because their DC offsets will in general be different. That means they'll fight, unless we put resistors in series with the outputs.
The silicon hardly contributes to the overall thermal resistance.
