It's Chinese made and shoots like a dream. Got it in the mid 80's. I also have a Tokarev 9mm, but it's certainly nothing to brag about.

I don't have to make anything up. You make nonsense up, other people call you on it, and then you start spewing filth around. It's how it has been here for years now.

Yes it does. It converts it to a frigging huge BMP file at the same color depth as your desktop. It doesn't work even remotely like you were suggesting, and I think you're starting to realize that.

I must be to think you're interested in learning something.

Shouldn't that be capitalized? What are the rules on blasphemy?

The frame buffer is separate from the RAM wasted in holding the wallpaper. I guess you don't understand that even though you claim to know so much about PCs.

I think we'll all take that as an affirmation of my correctness. It's even bigger than I indicated, isn't it? The BMP picture of my daughter on mine swelled up to over 9MB.

You don't know what you are talking about as usual. The same thing does not happen if you use a pattern or just a color. Even you should be able to understand that.

You are changing the subject. We were talking about system RAM holding a backup copy of the wallpaper in order to "repair" the screen when windows get moved around or when windows are closed. When it's a pattern or a color, windows has a very small image to maintain in memory for blt'ng to the screen. When it's wallpaper, well use your brain.

the

It's not an "array", it's a frame buffer and there is usually more than one, but they live in VRAM (in your video card) so they don't count since you can't (yet) use that memory for anything else. The wallpaper copy is stored in system RAM (on the DIMMs) since it has to be constantly available to the OS. Why can't you understand this? I'm trying to help you learn something and all you want to do is be an ass about it.

Frame buffer.

This is pointless. You don't have the faintest idea of how things work at that level, and I'm wasting my time trying to educate you. You aren't interested in knowing, you're only interested in being abusive and perpetuating this fantasy that you know what you're talking about.

Does that mean that you never get to use your own computer?

Funny image of Dogbert performing an exorcism.

Sure. But you could tell at a glance if the deck was out of order. Even 1 card! 'Course that required a crisp diagonal line. But even with a less than crisp line, you could manually sort the deck after it fell, and verify against the holes in 73 - 80. Nice when the sorter was down, or when it had the entire population of the a small city lined up to use it. :-)

Roy L. Fuchs wrote in news: snipped-for-privacy@4ax.com:

Regardless of the size of the file, or no background at all, it will take the same size in the framebuffer, the image must be decoded, this is done once, unless it has been unused for some time, and is not paged, in which case it must be reread or decoded again, this depends again on drivers, and OS, and also what card.. since you don;t know this, don't rely and tell others who are clearly correct are wrong. on NT/9x (this inclused XP), it will page it, therefore if your ram is full, and its not in framebuffer, on a already hammered hdd after minimizing it will be trying to read all that off the hdd, if it is a constant colour the gfx card can decode this.. again, some file compressions can also be decoded on card, but this is dependant on the OS supporting it, the drivers, the decoder/program, and the card.

There are many factors, and there is a good chance on an old machine with a lack of ram the people would commonly notice "pasting" of the background.

to say that is not true is a complete lie.. to say that they use different amount of space, is a lie, its both, you need more understanding to support an argument on this... its not simple correct or incorrect, there are many variables you either have no knoledge of or refuse to take into account.

a background makes a massive difference in MANY remote desktop apps, and a obvious difference in ALL remote desktop apps, and when shooting over wireless, the low bandwidth, and if working with large resolutions, makes backgrounds a stupid choice.

MS does not know everything you do on your computer, if you still beleive that s*it its time you bought a typewriter (not build by MS of course), the idiots you can post to on that might beleive your BS stories...

JPEG is how it should be typed.. it IS an acronym, it also happens to be the extension for the files, as is jpg, which was shortened for the old

8.3 filename system. it stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group.

It is typed in lowercase as an extension for OS's that are case sensitive, if you are talking about the file format, you are talking about the acronym, therefor should be in capitals. if you getting tied up over somethign like that you are having serious issued.
