Printing on SuSE 11 64 bit

I know that millions of you will also be working on this problem with SuSE 11, CUPS, SAMBA and printing.

If you

# **** start of fix cd /usr/lib64/cups/backend

#save the SuSE version mv smb smb.old

#make it work ln -s /usr/bin/smbspool smb # **** end of fix

printing through CUPS and SAMBA to a printer on a windows machine will start working.

My wife owns the fancy laser printer so this was important to me. I know that most Linux users will (A) run the faster machine as the server or (B) plug the printer directly into the network. It seems that they forgot to test the rare case of those who want to have the SMB printer server be the wife's machine.

Other than this, I will say that SuSE-11 running KDE3 is no worse than SuSE-10.2 in a few places it seems better. It comes with "octave 3.0" installed and a newer version of "qcad".
