Power Supply

Hello

I am designing a tube amplifier, and I need to make/buy a transofmer that provide about 350-400v. Where would I find such transformer, or the magnetic core at least?

Thank you for your time.

Lots of places cater to tube audio builders. Try

for a start. If they don't have it, they can probably direct you to someone who has.

Also, Googling at random, I find these:

The latter is a very well-respected transformer company.

Beware of absurdly high prices for things marketed to audiophiles. (There are people who will charge you $500 for a power cord.) Deal with a major transformer company, or at least find out what its prices are, so you don't get taken.

By the way, 120-to-240V transformers are a standard commodity item (used by international travelers) and are made in many different capacities. Signal Transformer has a line of them. Be *sure* to get one that is isolating, not an autotransformer.

From 240 V AC you can probably get about 300 V DC because 240 V rms = 336 V peak.

You'll find plenty of advice on this kind of thing in the rec.audio.tubes or guitar groups.
