Top posting is horrible communication.

"Congratulations!"

"How much?"

Sorry to hear it. How's the job?"

"Same as ever. How's yours?"

"They painted her purple. They should call her the Prune Fart now."

"Good, and you?"

The solution is simple: If it ISN'T IMPORTANT ENOUGH to go *above* your text, DON'T blockquote it--just delete it.

...and to take the road painting thing to extremes "Optical Speedbumps Create Illusion of Little Girl"

Yes, it changes the polarity aspect of the upper layer region.

Would seem to be funny, but to a driver it is a logical progression. Also look at the printing on the front of an ambulance..

Because top-posting is proof of unrestrained ego and inability to do linear or temporal thinking?

the best example of how bad top posting I can show is;

go to Townhall.com,pick an article with about 100 posts, and try to read the posted comments in "newest first" order. It's much easier, more sensible, and -logical- to read it in "oldest first" order.

Top posting is MFFY.

Ah, but how many viewers of that particular medium are reading it cold? Most of them, ranging from lurkers to ardent posters, read the thread daily. They have absolutely no need of any of the old information. They want only the newest posts. Therefore, they go at the top. Which makes sense.

Hey Jim, how many threads on here do you read in order? Do you have threading enabled?

I have, and I think it's a terrible idea. People aren't programmed to read stuff frontwards in a mirror image. It reads: "ECNALUBMA" but with the letters backwards.

I also get a kick out of

XING PED

or this one:

ONLY TURN LEFT

actually, that one kinda works either way. ;-)

Rich Grise:

Robert Baer:

You're missing the point: it's not a progression. The words are placed close enough to be seen as a unit.

Now that's a better idea. Rich Grise:

You don't need to be programmed to read it that way -- the idea is that you'll read it without needing to think about it.

Have you X'd a ped today?

Yep! Which brings us to an open-ended puzzle: find other examples of common signs (of three or more words) -- whether commonly written on roads or not -- that either (1) would have the same meaning or (2) would have the opposite meaning, if the word order was reversed.

It STILL isn't in ORDER. they don't know what the last post was referring to. so it doesn't "make sense". If you actually tried the site I suggested, you would have seen that.

also, people don't always come on at the beginning of the thread. Posts may begin at 11PM and some may only begin reading in the morning, when over 100 posts have already accumulated. Ann Coulter's columns often go over 400 comments. "newest first" is wanting instant gratification. It's MFFY.

Most of them in order. when I come in after many posts, even with customary bottom posting,it's hard to be sure what's going on,even with all the various methods of differentiating who's posting what;color, font, markers.

yes,I have threading enabled.

Ah, but if you had been reading at all, rather than spouting off irrationally, you might've noticed. I've said it before. I top post when appropriate. Most of the time I bottom post, because it is the correct method for that post. There IS a time and place for top posting.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Not free agent the paid version from about 3.5 I think; to 4.0. I just decided its time for a change. I used Agent for about seven years.

I'm pretty impressed with XNEWS considering its free.
