OT: Want cash? Go to another country..(not the US)

From an investment newsletter:

"Just read about the guy having to get permission to withdraw HIS money from the bank. Just so you know that there are other countries that are really free, I went to the bank last week with a bank check made out to me and drawn on that bank. Took them about 15 minutes but they counted out $26,953.40 in cash without a question and apologized for it taking so long. I don't even have an account with that bank. I live in Panama by the way." ? Paid-up subscriber J.E.

Like that's unusual? The key phrase is "drawn on that bank". Try cashing a bank check at _your_ bank drawn on _another_ bank for an amount larger than your present deposits. Won't happen.

Because in this country (the US) the government is moving us to a state where our right to enter into a contract is secondary to the government's right to track individuals' transactions.

Note that this doesn't extent to corporations or other large entities (political contributors), or the location of Bernie Madoff's funds or who's really sitting on AIG's bad CDS paper would be a non-issue.

Obama didn't initiate all of this warrantless wiretapping. Bush did. And I've always said that we've got to be careful about what sort of powers we grant the executive branch. Because the next one might have a different use for them.

Its interesting that neither Bush nor Obama have attempted to violate the sanctity of AIGs private CDS market.

They weren't wiretapping calls to your boyfriend.

I do note that Obama wants all of your medical records and a realtime track on your driving habits.
