OT: SMTP Relays

While on-the-road I used gmail as a way to send E-mail from my laptop (since I can't send via Cox when off their network).

But gmail persists in using my gmail address as the "From" address no matter how I set up personalities and set "use relay personality".

Anyone using, or know of, an SMTP relay that preserves personality settings?

Thanks! ...Jim Thompson

What? Did you get suckered into some shady deal there?

Run it through whoever hosts your web site. That's what I do and I can access my email with anywhere, even from places like Fort Zinderneuf if they have Internet.

Even old Missy Bell let me do that back in the days when I didn't have a web site. All I needed was a newsreader, just like today.

Have you tried using SMTP port 587 for Cox? Your email program should have a setting for SMTP port. Port 25 isn't very useful anymore if you're on travel.

Hi Mark, How goes it?

I hadn't noticed the ability to set 587 as "submission port" (Eudora

7) until you mentioned it. Can you access Cox SMTP via 587 when you are on a non-Cox network? ...Jim Thompson

Your post made an interesting splash in my brain. I don't know what "SMPT" means, and I'm predisposed to assuming that posts on this group are about circuits.

So my immediate response was to ignore the "PT" and wonder "why in heck does Jim care about surface mount relays?"

Aha! Poked around on Cox' website, for laptops they use port 995 inbound and port 465 outbound (SSL).

Thanks for the tip! ...Jim Thompson

I'm not on Cox, so wouldn't know. However, alternate ports are usually what makes things work these days. If need be, you can set up alternate ports in Eudora.ini with a text editor.

SMTPPort and POPPort are items you might be interested in. Be sure to back up eudora.ini before editing it.

You should check and see if your cable or satellite supports "MeTV" (Memorable Entertainment TV) or "Antenna TV" - they're loaded with nostalgia programs from "Dobie Gillis" to "Rawhide" to "Columbo" and more.

Most of the males are dead, almost every female is still around. Apparently Ruth Buzzi owns a cat named Ratso Rizzo.

AFAIK, the only major surviving cast member of _Bewitched_ is Bernard Fox (Dr. Bombay).
